CountAhead Legal
Terms of Use and Privacy Policy for CountAhead.
CountAhead — Terms of Use
These Terms of Use (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of CountAhead. By creating a CountAhead account, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, you must not create or use a CountAhead account.
1. Service and Pricing
CountAhead is offered as a household financial planning and organization service.
CountAhead currently provides free access as a promotional offer. This offer may change or end, and CountAhead may introduce paid plans, subscriptions, or other pricing in the future. Before any change that could affect access to CountAhead, including future pricing, CountAhead will email the Family Owner in advance with the details and next steps.
The service may contain errors, incomplete features, interruptions, or changes. Features may be modified, added, restricted, or removed as the service develops.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years old to create or use a CountAhead User account.
A Family Owner may create Family Member records for members of their household, including individuals under 18, but must not create or arrange a User login for an individual under 18.
The Family Owner is responsible for ensuring that information they enter about another Family Member is provided lawfully and with any authority or consent that may be required.
3. What CountAhead Does
CountAhead is a household financial planning and organization tool.
It allows users to manually record information such as accounts, balances, income, recurring expenses, loans and mortgages, investments, contributions, one-time amounts, and other household financial information and to generate planning calculations and forecasts from that information.
CountAhead does not connect to your bank or financial institution and does not automatically verify the accuracy or completeness of information entered by users.
4. No Financial or Professional Advice
CountAhead provides planning, organizational, calculation, and forecasting tools only.
CountAhead is not a bank, financial institution, financial adviser, investment adviser, portfolio manager, accountant, tax adviser, lawyer, broker, or dealer.
CountAhead does not provide investment recommendations, securities recommendations, buy or sell signals, personalized financial advice, tax advice, legal advice, or any other service requiring professional registration or licensing.
Information, calculations, forecasts, projected balances, Leftover amounts, MonthCast results, investment information, and other outputs may be inaccurate, incomplete, delayed, or based on incorrect assumptions or information supplied by users.
You must not rely on CountAhead as the sole basis for any spending, borrowing, saving, investing, tax, legal, or other financial decision.
You remain responsible for verifying information and making your own decisions and, where appropriate, obtaining advice from a qualified professional.
5. Your Information and Responsibilities
You are responsible for the accuracy and appropriateness of information you enter into CountAhead.
You must not knowingly enter unlawful content or information you do not have authority to provide.
CountAhead does not request online-banking passwords or credentials, full payment-card numbers, CVV/CVC codes, PINs, full bank account numbers, Social Insurance Numbers, or dates of birth.
Where CountAhead provides fields for limited identifiers, such as the optional last four digits of an account, card, loan, or investment account, you should provide only the information requested.
You should not place passwords, authentication credentials, full financial-account numbers, full payment-card numbers, government identification numbers, or similarly sensitive credentials in notes or other free-text fields.
6. Family Accounts and Family Owners
A CountAhead Family may contain information relating to multiple members of a household.
The Family Owner controls membership and access to the Family and may invite eligible individuals to become CountAhead Users.
By entering personal or financial information relating to another person, the Family Owner represents that they have the authority or consent necessary to provide and use that information within CountAhead.
Family Members who do not have User accounts do not independently access CountAhead or accept these Terms through the application.
7. Account Security
You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your password and authentication credentials and for activity occurring through your account.
You must notify CountAhead promptly at [email protected] if you believe your account has been compromised.
CountAhead may use security measures including password hashing, multi-factor authentication, session controls, encryption, access controls, and security monitoring.
No Internet-connected system can be guaranteed to be completely secure.
8. Acceptable Use
You must not misuse CountAhead, attempt to gain unauthorized access to another User or Family, interfere with the service, circumvent security controls, introduce malicious code, use the service unlawfully, or attempt to access data you are not authorized to access.
CountAhead may suspend or disable access when reasonably necessary to protect Users, the service, or its systems, investigate misuse, comply with legal obligations, or address security risks.
9. Availability and Service Levels
CountAhead aims to maintain a reliable and available service, but no service-level agreement (SLA), uptime commitment, or guaranteed availability is provided.
The service may be temporarily unavailable because of maintenance, failures, security events, third-party infrastructure, upgrades, or circumstances outside CountAhead's reasonable control.
10. Account and Family Deletion
Where the functionality is available to the Family Owner, the Family Owner may use CountAhead's account-deletion controls to delete their Account and Family.
Deletion removes the Family and associated customer data from the active application database and is not reversible through normal CountAhead product functionality.
Limited residual copies may temporarily remain in backups, snapshots, logs, email systems, security records, or other systems where retention is reasonably necessary for disaster recovery, security, fraud prevention, legal compliance, or operation of the service. Such copies are not intended to be restored into normal service solely to recover a deleted Family and are removed or overwritten according to applicable retention processes.
Deletion of an individual User account is different from deletion of an entire Family. Historical Family Member records and Family financial information may remain under the control of the Family Owner after an individual User deletes their login.
Additional details are provided in the Privacy Policy.
11. Intellectual Property
CountAhead, its software, branding, design, trademarks, logos, and original content are owned by their respective rights holder and are protected by applicable intellectual-property laws.
These Terms grant you a limited, revocable, non-exclusive and non-transferable right to use CountAhead for its intended purpose during the period in which you have authorized access.
You retain ownership of information you provide to CountAhead.
12. Third-Party Services
CountAhead relies on third-party infrastructure and service providers for functions such as hosting, database infrastructure, network security, content delivery, and email delivery.
Those services may experience interruptions or operate under their own terms and privacy practices.
The use of service providers to operate CountAhead does not give those providers ownership of your information.
13. Disclaimer of Warranties
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, CountAhead is provided “as is” and “as available.”
CountAhead does not warrant that the service will always be available, uninterrupted, error-free, completely secure, or that calculations, forecasts, projections, or other outputs will be accurate or suitable for any particular decision or purpose.
Nothing in these Terms excludes warranties or rights that cannot lawfully be excluded.
14. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, CountAhead will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for loss of profits, opportunities, data, savings, investments, or anticipated financial outcomes arising from or relating to your use of or inability to use CountAhead.
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, CountAhead's aggregate liability arising from or relating to the Service or these Terms will not exceed the GREATER OF:
(a) the amount the User paid CountAhead for the Service during the 12 months preceding the event giving rise to the claim; or
(b) CAD $100.
The CAD $100 amount is a liability cap, not a User fee, charge, deductible, service credit, or promised compensation.
This limitation does not apply to liability that cannot legally be excluded or limited.
15. Changes to the Service or Terms
CountAhead may change the service as it develops.
These Terms may also be updated. If a change materially affects your rights or obligations, CountAhead may require you to review and accept an updated version before continuing to use the service.
16. Termination
You may stop using CountAhead at any time and may use available account-deletion functionality where applicable.
CountAhead may suspend or terminate access where reasonably necessary because of misuse, security concerns, legal requirements, discontinuation of the service, or violation of these Terms.
17. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the applicable federal laws of Canada, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.
Nothing in these Terms limits any mandatory rights you may have under applicable law.

CountAhead — Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how CountAhead collects, uses, stores, discloses, and protects personal information when you use CountAhead.
1. Our Privacy Approach
CountAhead is designed as a manually managed household financial planning application.
We seek to collect only information reasonably necessary to provide and secure the service.
CountAhead does not sell your personal information.
We do not disclose personal information to third parties for their independent advertising purposes.
We may use service providers to operate CountAhead as described below.
2. Information We Collect
Depending on how you use CountAhead, we may process:
Account and identity information, including your email address, password hash, account status, authentication settings, and related account information.
A valid email address is required for a User account because email is used for account access, invitations, security, password recovery, and other transactional communications.
Family information, including Family names, Family Member names, optional email addresses, optional mobile numbers, access permissions, and relationships within a CountAhead Family.
Providing a mobile number is optional. CountAhead does not currently use mobile numbers for SMS messaging. Mobile information may support optional communication or notification functionality in future versions, subject to applicable requirements.
Financial planning information, including information users manually provide about accounts, balances, income, bills and expenses, loans and mortgages, investments, contribution room, recurring contributions, one-time amounts, and related financial planning information.
Limited account identifiers, such as optional last-four-digit identifiers where supported.
Technical and security information, which may include session information, device or browser information, login activity, security events, authentication information, session IP addresses, and approximate city, province or state, and country information used to operate and secure the service and shown in session-security controls. CountAhead does not collect GPS coordinates, postal codes, or street-level location for this feature.
Communications, including information you provide when contacting [email protected].
3. Information We Do Not Ask You to Provide
CountAhead does not connect to your bank or use Open Banking to retrieve your financial information.
CountAhead does not request:
- online-banking usernames or passwords;
- full payment-card numbers;
- CVV/CVC security codes or PINs;
- full bank account numbers;
- Social Insurance Numbers;
- dates of birth; or
- government identification documents.
Some fields permit limited information such as the last four digits of an account or card.
Free-text fields may technically contain information a User chooses to enter. You should not enter banking credentials, passwords, full account or card numbers, government identification numbers, or other credentials that CountAhead does not request.
4. How We Use Information
We use information to provide CountAhead's functionality, calculate and display household financial plans and forecasts, authenticate Users, manage Families and permissions, send transactional and security communications, respond to support requests, maintain and secure the service, prevent abuse, diagnose technical problems, maintain appropriate records, and comply with applicable legal obligations.
We do not use your financial information to provide investment recommendations or financial advice.
5. Family Information
A Family Owner may enter information about other household members, including individuals who do not have CountAhead User accounts.
The Family Owner is responsible for ensuring that they have appropriate authority or consent to provide another person's information.
Family Members may include children, but CountAhead User accounts are restricted to individuals who are at least 18 years old. Family Owners are responsible for not creating or arranging User access for a person under 18.
Users who have access to the same CountAhead Family may be able to view information about other Family Members, including information necessary for shared household planning.
6. System Administration and Access
CountAhead uses role-based access controls.
System Administrators may access administrative information necessary to operate the service, such as User email addresses, Family membership relationships, account status, identifiers, and access permissions.
System Administrators do not have routine application access to another Family's financial ledgers through the normal administrative interface.
Authorized operational access to systems containing customer information may nevertheless occur in exceptional circumstances when reasonably necessary for support requested or authorized by a User, security investigation, incident response, maintenance, service operation, legal compliance, or protection of CountAhead and its Users.
Such access is intended to be limited to what is reasonably necessary for the relevant purpose.
7. Service Providers and Disclosure
CountAhead uses service providers to operate and secure the service. These may include:
Amazon Web Services (AWS) for application hosting, database infrastructure, encryption-related infrastructure, and backups.
Cloudflare for DNS, network delivery, TLS, security, and related infrastructure.
Resend for transactional email delivery, including invitations, authentication messages, and account notifications.
Support communications sent to CountAhead may also be processed through the email systems used to operate the support mailbox.
We may also disclose information where required by law, valid legal process, or where reasonably necessary to protect the security, rights, or safety of CountAhead, our Users, or others.
We do not sell customer personal information to these providers or to other third parties.
8. Where Information Is Processed
CountAhead's primary production application and database infrastructure are hosted in the AWS Canada Central region.
However, we do not represent that all personal information remains exclusively within Canada.
Cloudflare's network, email delivery, support email providers, or other necessary service infrastructure may process information outside Canada. Information processed outside Canada may be subject to the laws of the jurisdiction where it is processed.
9. Security and Encryption
CountAhead uses administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards intended to protect personal information.
Production application traffic uses encrypted HTTPS connections over public networks. Connections to the production database and transactional email infrastructure are also protected using transport encryption where configured.
Production database and server storage use encryption at rest. Certain authentication secrets receive additional application-level protection.
Financial values stored in the database are protected by encrypted storage but are not individually field-encrypted.
No security system can guarantee absolute security.
10. Retention
We retain personal information while it is reasonably necessary to provide CountAhead, maintain the Family, secure the service, satisfy legitimate operational requirements, or comply with applicable obligations.
Different categories of information may have different retention periods.
Security tokens and authentication challenges generally have short expiration periods. Operational records, security events, account records, and backups may be retained for longer periods where reasonably necessary.
We seek to avoid retaining personal information longer than reasonably required for its purpose.
11. Deleting Your Information
CountAhead provides Family Owners with functionality to delete their Account and Family where that functionality is available to the account.
Deleting the Family removes associated Family information and financial data from the active application database. The deleted Family cannot be restored through normal CountAhead product functionality.
Deletion from the active system does not necessarily mean that every residual copy disappears immediately.
Temporary residual copies may remain in disaster-recovery backups or snapshots until those copies expire, rotate, or are deleted according to applicable backup processes. Certain security records, operational logs, transactional email records, support correspondence, or information required by law may also remain for a limited or necessary period.
Backups are maintained for disaster recovery and are not intended to be used to restore an individual deleted Family into ordinary service.
Deleting an individual User login without deleting the entire Family may leave the corresponding Family Member record and historical Family information under the Family Owner's control.
If you need assistance concerning deletion, contact [email protected].
12. Access and Correction
CountAhead allows Users to view much of the information maintained within their Family and, depending on their permissions, correct information through the application.
Family Owners have broader controls over Family information and membership.
If you need assistance accessing or correcting personal information that cannot be managed through the application, contact [email protected].
We may need to verify your identity before fulfilling a privacy-related request.
13. Email and Communications
CountAhead uses email primarily for service-related purposes such as invitations, authentication, password recovery, security notifications, account events, and support.
Access may also involve communications related to an access request or invitation.
CountAhead does not currently use User mobile numbers for SMS marketing or notifications.
14. No Sale of Personal Information
CountAhead does not sell or rent your personal information.
We also do not provide your household financial information to third parties for their independent advertising or marketing purposes.
Disclosure to infrastructure, security, hosting, and communication providers strictly for operating CountAhead is not a sale of your information.
15. Service Development
CountAhead may change its features and data practices as the service develops. If a change materially affects how personal information is handled, this Privacy Policy will be updated and, where appropriate, Users may be required to review the new version before continuing to use CountAhead.
16. Changes to this Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy to reflect changes to CountAhead, legal requirements, security practices, or service providers.
The effective date at the top identifies the current version.
Where appropriate, CountAhead may require Users to acknowledge an updated Privacy Policy before continuing to use the service.
